Now for raw, pick the scab and puss, critic summery. Oh my, where do I start.....
While waiting for the past two years and reading the transformers news, the promise of having more screen time of the transformers was a real plus. Yes, they had more scenes with them but it was all fighting! I felt that the new characters were not developed, we barely heared from them and really did not get to know their character, aside from Wheelie, Jetfire, and maybe the Fallen. The writers had mentioned that Arcee and the femmes did not appear in the first movie is because they needed to explain their role or origin, THEY DID NOT EVEN BOTHER WITH THAT IN THE MOVIE! Also the designs of the new characters were poor, Wheelie, the insecticons (I didn't even know they were in this until I got on the website), ravage's little baby things, and whatever the hell that robot thing that changed into a girl on the college campus, they pretty much had the same skeleton design and ....... really they could have done a way better job. And what really drove me nuts was the fact that they didn't even introduce the names of the new characters, I got Mudflap and Arcee, but the rest of the Autobots I didn't know and I had to check online, sad. And the constructicons, we barely get a good look at them( not like we even get a good look of any of them except Prime) they automatically change into Devastor without us even know who's who. I don't really have much of a complant of Devastor's design, but dude! He gets taken out by a single rail gun?
Although it is an action movie I feel that the drama and fighting were way over rated and enthazied. The CGI of the autobots and decipticons while fighting move way too fast and was too dynamic, I couldn't tell who was winning or where one started and end, it was one big blurr. Realistic but not amusing. Also angling, I don't have a problem with it, it can be and art form to set the mood and give people an energy boost and set dynamics, but in the movie they would have the craziest angles that either I could not tell what I was looking at or it would take a while to set in. (Not to mention that one shot of Devisator on the pyramid of his underside and seeing to dangly things near his butt. Or agent simmons's hinny, my eyes are still scarred.) And the drama, my mom says I can be a drama queen and hyper, but this? Sam's mom had her funny parts but after a while she drove me nuts, she seemed so unrealistic! It felt like the humans were running around like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off, everybody was moving around so much and seemed tense, when there was, I guess, suppose to be humor, esponage, suspense, or sadness, it just seemed someone was about to have a meltdown, TOO MUCH ENERGY. I wanted to shoot Leo, the cry baby. Even the human characters were flat, no one really learned any morals, other than Sam and Mikeala saying they love each other, LAME! The humans still had to much time on screen I think....... I hate Shia Defouse, not a great actor and he ruined Indiana Jones.
As for the story plot, was not to bad but not great either. It has great potenial but how it was introduce or acted out was frustrating. It was hard to tell what was going on or where they were going next. The college scenes REALLY were not needed, especially the girl/pretender, she was useless unless Bay wanted to put teenagers in heat. It would have been better with more discution on energon and what the matrix was really all about. Okay, so it's important, big whoop, but why, all I really heared was "AHHHHHHRRRGGGGGG matrix of power, find matrix, AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH it's dust we're all gonna fry! Prime's gave it to me!" ummmmmmmmmmmmm okay? The climax fighting near the end also got me, they dragged on and on, Sam nearly dies, I about stood up in the theater and yelled "Get off your fat ass and put the damn thing in Prime aready!" I know we don't want things to be too easy for the hero, honestly, it was too freaken easy for the bad guys to revive Megatron. (Although by the way, Ravege's esponge scene so awsome I have to say.) And why is the hero a human in a movie of the transformers?
My next complaint I really can't complain about because Bay is well know for his explosions, but there are TOO MANY! I felt as if he was trying hypnotize us from the already weak plot and say, "Oh look at the shiney dangling keys!" I'm quoting Gracchus from "Gladiator" "Conjure magic for them and they'll be distracted."
As for what bugged me about this movie I do have one positive, who ever worked on Soundwave's character and role was actually using their brain. Not really what I was expecting but very resonable, Orci and the group really did try hard on him and ravege's beginning role was excellent as I said earlier. I was sad Soundwave didn't have a huge role, I felt as if he became the new G1 Shockwave, but the scene with him and Sam's mom was hilarious. I took my Blackout action figure to celebrate and said he was my date and was going to buy me popcorn. Poor guy, I had to cover hiss optics when he got his face ripped in half during the movie.
The end of the movie was really rushed, I would have liked to see what happened to the autobots and decepticons. Did Megatron and Starscream return to the abandoned ship? Did Skid and Mudflap survive? Nice cliffhangers................... also WWB WHERE WAS BARRICADE IN THIS?! I have to agree with BaronessofBlades I do feel cheated.
Okay so these are my thoughts and feelings, but I might go see it again to see if I might understand it more. I get the feeling I'm going to get alot of arguement on my review. I don't mind arguing, I wouldn't mind listening to your opinions, but if you write that I'm a whining brat and need to grow up or something like that, I will ignore you.
Micheal Bay is a big boy, my review is not going to hurt him,he's probably raking in the big bucks now as we speak.
